Croatia
Free
from the oppression of old Yugoslavia and the Balkan wars, Croatia
is now regaining its once lofty position as one of Europe’s
favorite tourist destinations. Its ports are on the itinerary of
many Mediterranean cruise ships, it is a favorite of sailors, and
beach goers. It is blessed with sunny weather, the blue waters of
the Adriatic, beautiful mountains, and classic old cities and
villages. The remains of Roman, Venetian, Byzantine, and
Austro-Hungarian empires are prevalent throughout the region.
Today, Croatia is a modern, clean, secure, republic on the verge
of entry into the EU. If you love Italy and Greece, you will also
love Croatia. Many of its people speak English and all are tourist
friendly. Best of all, Croatia is much more affordable than most
of Western Europe. |
We have developed a customized tour of the islands and
mainland Croatia. Your tour combines the elements of cruising the
islands, sightseeing in the beautiful port cities and quaint
island harbors, and cycling tours of the islands. The tour will
begin in Split and conclude in Dubrovnik. Your tour will take you
through olive orchards, vineyards, medieval fortifications, green
forests, fertile valleys, and subtropical parks. You will have
free time to explore many ports with extra time in Korcula, Hvar,
and Dubrovnik.
The cycling will be less extensive than our previous bike and
barge trips with shorter rides and half vs. full day itineraries.
We will ride as a group with each rider free to proceed at his/her
own pace. We will have two guides to lead both the cycling and
walking tours. The guides provide a briefing and maps for each
cycle tour. Each ride will include stops for refreshment and to
visit interesting sights. |

Mountain, which rises almost 1000 metres from the sea. After a
short cruise in the morning you will take a cycle tour into the
inland of the island past the famous winegrowing region of
Dalmatia (the excellent Plavac and Dingac wines come from here) to

century Benedictine monks founded a beautifully situated
monastery, which you will see on your short cycle trip. The local

Mediterranean region - Ulysses is said to have spent seven here.

General Information
Alterations
We reserve the right to make alterations on the itinerary,
depending on wind and weather conditions as well as organizational
necessities.
Requirements (level 2-3)
The bike-tours require a basic level of fitness from participants,
which they should have acquired from steady cycling. The routes
can reach an altitude of 200 - 500 metres. The day-tours will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and
will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will
also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are,
however, also permitted to push their bikes. You are free to set
aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat,
instead of taking a planned bike-tour. We will traverse mostly
asphalted roads, which are rarely traveled on outside the holiday
seasons. Each day you can either decide to bike alone, using the
information and maps provided, or join the
other participants.
Bringing children
We believe that only children in a good physical condition and of
a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able
to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that
the minimum height for a rental bike is 1,40 m (4.6 ft.)
Catering
The cook on board is a member of the crew and prepares a hearty
breakfast and two warm dishes a day.
Participants:
* Minimum: 24 participants
* Maximum: 30 participants
