In 2006 it will be 400 years ago that Rembrandt van Rijn
(1606-1669) was born in Leiden on July 15. The program is quite
similar to the South Tour Relax, but there is an emphasis on
Rembrandt events and museums.
Rembrandt lived and worked the first twenty-five years of his life
in Leiden. He moved to Amsterdam in 1632 and married Saskia van
Uylenburgh in 1633. There will be special Rembrandt walking routes
in both Leiden and Amsterdam, taking in the striking points from
Rembrandt's life.
Rembrandt died in 1669 and was buried in the Westerkerk in
Amsterdam. You can view his works in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam,
the Mauritshuis in The Hague and the Lakenhal municipal museum in
Leiden (admission to these museums is included in the tour price).
