CROATIA - Dalmatia from Trogir to Dubrovnik
 
 
 
 
15 Days /14 Nights approx. 580km (360 mi.) by bicycle


If you have the time and want to experience the region of South Dalmatia in an intense way, not wanting to do without Dubrovnik, you should decide on this sail and bike trip. In case you already know our one week tour, you will get to know the islands of Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Mlijet and Peljesac in a completely new and different way. In addition you will discover the island of Vis and the Elafiti Islands near Dubrovnik and cycle along the fertile coastal line south of Dubrovnik.


Day 1 (Sat) Island Solta, 20 km (12 mi.)
Individual arrival either by car to Trogir or by airplane to Split airport, situated about 5 km from the harbour of Trogir, where the trip starts. After checking in on the motor yacht you will start your trip with your first little cruise from the mainland to the island of Solta at 2 p.m. On your first bike tour you will see plenty of fields surrounded by ancient stone walls as well as numerous olive, fig and carob trees. The lavender and rosemary shrubs give the island its specific, spicy fragrance. You will spend the night either in Stomorska or on the island of Brac.

Day 2 (Sun) Island Brac, 25 km + 30 km (16 + 19 mi.)
After a short crossing you will reach Supetar on the island of Brac. This elegant ferry port is the starting point for our bike tour along the coast to Puscica, one of the most famous quarries of the island, which served for the construction of Diokletian’s Palace in Split. From Puscica you will cross over to Povlja. After a good long break for lunch and a swim you will easily master an ascent of about 400 m and reach Bol and the Golden Horn. In the evening you will sail to Jelsa on the island of Hvar.

Day 3 (Mon) Island Hvar, 45 km + 15 km (28 + 9 mi.)
The island of Hvar is mainly known for its many colourful lavender and rosemary fields. It is therefore also called Lavender Island. The vines and olive trees bear plenty of fruit and in the autumn the ripe oranges shine brightly in the trees. From Jelsa you will ride to the point of the island, which is about 45 km, and meet the ship in Sumartin, from where you will cross over to the island of Peljesac. In the afternoon you will cycle 15 km to Orebic, where you can go for a swim and spend the night.

Day 4 (Tue) Peninsula Peljesac, 50 km (31 mi)
Peljesac impresses from afar by its mountain range of Sv. Ilja, which rises almost 1000 m from the sea. In the morning the bike tour leads you to the hinterland, passing the most famous winegrowing area of Dalmatia, home to renowned wines such as Plavac and Dingac. You will first cycle to the other side of the peninsula, to Trpanj, and further on through fertile valleys to the bay of Duba, the magnificent site and beauty of which will be sure to invite you to a swim. In the afternoon you will ride on via Potomje with its wine-press houses to Trstenik, where you will meet the ship for the night.

Day 5 (Wed) Peninsula Peljesac, 55 km (34 mi)
In the morning you will continue your bike tour and explore the last part of the island to Ston with its impressing medieval fortification which reminds one of the Great Wall of China. You will stop for lunch in Ston and enjoy the delicious regional cooking. After lunch you will cycle the last 20 km to the ship along the coast to the deep and secure bay of Slano, where you will stay overnight.

Day 6 (Thu) Elafiti Islands – Dubrovnik, 10 km (6 mi.)
After a short passage you will reach the small island of Sipan. An interesting bike tour will take you through green forests, fertile valleys and subtropical parks to the other end of the island. Crossing to Dubrovnik. A local guide will explain you the history of this interesting and world-famous city. You will spend the night in Dubrovnik.

Day 7 (Fri) Dubrovnik – Cavtat, 30 km + 20 km (12 + 19 mi.)
With your guide you will cycle to a place which offers you a spectacular view of the Old Town of Dubrovnik. After a further stay till lunchtime you will cycle on to Cavtat. There you will be welcomed by an atmosphere of nonchalance, a mixture of urban and rural elements, of fishing and farming. The historic part of the town reveals that Cavtat is much older than Dubrovnik.

Day 8 (Sat) Cavtat – Dubrovnik, 45 km (28 mi.)
We leave Cavtat, cycle through one of the most fertile coastal areas of Croatia and stop for lunch in one of the most famous local trout-breeding places. After lunch you will return to Cavtat and cycle or sail back to the harbour of Dubrovnik.

Day 9 (Sun) Dubrovnik – Isle Mljet, 45 km (28 mi.)
In the morning crossing to Mljet. The green island of Mljet is also called Honey Island. In the 12thDalmatia. The local pine forest is said to be the finest of its kind all over the Mediterranean. Ulysses is said to have spent seven years of his life here. Starting in the ferry port of Sobra, which is 15 km from the nature reserve, you will cycle to the park and stay there overnight. century the Benedictines founded a monastery here, in this magnificent site of seclusion, surrounded by pine and evergreen oak forests. Day 10 (Mon) Island Korcula, 40 km (25 mi.)
After a two hour cruise in the early morning you will reach the main town of the island of Korcula. After visiting the old town you will first cycle along the coastal road, then you will have to walk your bike a short way to Pupnat, where you will have lunch at famous Mate’s. After lunch you will ride to Brna and cross over to Lastovo.

Day 11 (Tue) Island Lastovo, 35 km (22 mi.)
Lastovo is among the smallest inhabited islands with an asphalt road of 20 km length, which connects the several fishing villages and lonely bays. The approximately 1000 inhabitants still mainly live on agriculture and viniculture. The golden white wine “Marastina” grows here. After exploring the island our ship will take us to the island of Vis.

Day 12 (Wed) Island Vis , 25 km (16 mi.)
Like the island of Lastovo, Vis, too, has only been open for tourists since 1990. It is almost twice as big, and visitors are enthusiastic about the famous wines you don’t get anywhere else. A round trip, including a gentle ascent, will take you to Komiza and back again. You will pass numerous quaint villages, which, in former times, were built in the interiour of the island for fear of pirates. In the afternoon you will cross over to the port-town of Hvar on the island of the same name. Its big Renaissance place with the cathedral is surrounded with late Gothic palaces. The Spanish fortress, which is art-historically important, the cathedral and the ancient theatre can be visited.

Day 13 (Thu) Island Hvar, 20 km + 25 km (12 + 16 mi.)
The little island villages with their picturesque, charming stone houses string together along today’s bike tour like the pearls of a necklace. Today’s destination is the historic town of Stari Grad. In the afternoon you have the opportunity to go on a further fascinating trip with your guides to Jelsa.

Day 14 (Fri) Island Brac, 45 km (28 mi.)
The tour starts with a long, but moderate climb to the ridge of the island. Here is where the famous wines Vugaca (white) and Murvica (red) are grown. The famous white marble of Brac to be seen here was used for buildings such as the White House in Washington and the Parliament Building in Berlin. You will pass numerous picturesque little island villages before reaching Milna, where the ship will be waiting for you to take you back to Trogir.

Day 15 (Sat) Disembarkation
Disembarkation by 9 a.m. and taking leave of a great and eventful tour through the South of Dalmatia.

General Information

Alterations:
We reserve the right to make alterations on the itinerary, depending on wind and weather conditions as well as organisational necessities.

Requirements (level 2-3):
The bike routes require a basic level of fitness, which you should have acquired by occasional or daily cycling. The routes can reach an altitude of 200 - 500 metres. The daily routes, of 30-60 km, cover hilly and mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where you might have to push your bike. You can also choose to skip a bike-tour and spend a day sunbathing on the ship instead.

The roads are mostly asphalted and there is little traffic outside of holiday-periods.
You can decide every day for yourself, whether you would like to cycle individually (i.e. by yourself), using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides (or the individual participants).

Bringing Children:
We believe that only children in a good physical condition and of a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1,40 m (4.6 ft.)

Catering:
The cook on board is a member of the crew of four and prepares a hearty breakfast and a warm dinner every day.
