Thailand
Bike / Cruise the Coast from Bangkok to Koh Samui

Historic Bangkok shows the true heart of this bustling city. Cycle the back roads and small laneways to discover that there is more to this city than big roads full of traffic alongside high-rise buildings.

Biking the quiet 'soi' and lanes you will discover ancient temples and life by the Chao Phraya River and in the tiny lanes that make up much of the city. Many people ask us how we found our way through the labyrinth of streets that we take you on - the answer is simple: we ride every little laneway we can find. It has literary taken years to develop this tour. No-one knows historic Bangkok like us!

On this bike tour, you will cycle south down the beautiful Thai coast, before crossing over to the stunning island of Koh Samui. Take the slow road and cycle with us on this relatively easy ride that follows the south, takes back roads, passes through national parks and takes it all in.

Day 2: Bangkok, Thailand
Biking 15km/9mi

In the morning your guide will meet you at the hotel and walk you to the nearby bike shop where you will be fitted to a bike and take in a relaxing 15km bike tour in historic Bangkok. Most people think Bangkok means heavy traffic and congested roads - we are here to show you the other side of the city. Bangkok is criss-crossed with many small alleyways, quiet streets and river side paths. You will explore these tracks to visits hidden temples, local markets, and see daily life from the big roads and main tourist sights. This really is a side of the city that most people miss out on seeing. In the afternoon there is free time to visit the more famous temples, take in a massage, shop at the markets or relax by the pool. In evening we board a lovely river boat and enjoy dinner while cruising past some of Bangkok most famous temples which are beautifully lit up at night.

Day 3: Bike to Pranburi, Thailand
Biking approx. 34km/21 mi

Today is the beginning of the bike ride heading south to Samui. We start with a 2-3 hour transfer to Hua Hin, where the biking will start. In Pranburi you'll stay in a comfortable resort right on the coast, well away from the bustle of Bangkok where you started the day.

Cycling difficulty: Easy - all flat coastal riding on small back roads.

Day 4: Bike to Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand
Biking approx. 68km/42mi

More quiet back roads and beaches await you on this great day of biking. A highlight of the day is cycling past the stark limestone mountains of Sam Roi Yot National Park. If you are really lucky you might spot monkeys hanging out on the rocks. Prachuap Khiri Khan sits on a beautiful curved beach and is a small relaxing provincial town which few tourists bother to visit - this to us makes for a perfect bike tour place to stay!

Hotel: Hat Thong Hotel Ocean View Rooms
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Cycling difficulty: Moderate - this day is all flat and apart from one section on the highway are all quiet back roads. The highway section is 10km on a large dual lane road with a large shoulder so it is quite safe. It is easy enough for anyone not wishing to ride this section to go in the support vehicle.

Day 5: Bike to Ban Krut, Thailand
Biking approx. 70km/43mi

Leaving Prachuap is a treat as we cycle through an air force base and over their runway to visit a colony of gentle langur monkeys. A little further down the road we stop at Waghor Aquarium, an amazing center that displays the wonders of the underwater world that is right of the coast that you are cycling by. Passing through the narrowest part of Thailand - only 11km wide - you can see a ridge on your right that marks the border with Myanmar. Riding on you be on a mix of sealed and unsealed road passing fishing villages on your way to Ban Krut and another lovely resort on the coast.

Cycling difficulty: Moderate - the longest day of the ride has a 20km section on the highway with the same conditions as day 4. Other than that there is a short section on reasonable unsealed road and lots of great back road riding.

Day 6: Bike to Chumphon, Thailand
Biking approx. 50km/31mi

Today's biking will take you alongside more beautiful coastline and beaches but also through plantations of fruit and rubber. We'll make a stop at one rubber plantation to learn about the long process of taking the sap of the tree and turning it into car tires and condoms. The ride ends at lunch and then we transfer to Chumphon, just north of the main town and ferry where you'll enjoy a last night on the Thai mainland.

Hotel: Chumphon Cabana Resort Superior Bungalow Sea View

Cycling difficulty: Moderate - this is the last day of riding and people tend to start getting a little tired after a number of days of riding. There are a couple of small hills to get over which also slows things down a little.

The ferry leaves early so you'll be up and away from the resort very early for the drive to the pier. The ferry is a comfortable high speed catamaran, and takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to reach Samui so there is plenty of time to relax after the early morning. Upon arrival we will transfer to your resort on Lamai Beach where you can spend the afternoon chilling out and resting your cycling legs.
